Description

This densely tufted, cool-season grass forms loose, spreading clumps of arching, broadly linear, flat, glaucous pale blue-grey leaves that rapidly spread by rhizomes. Tall, erect stems (up to 4 ft.) produce spike-like racemes of straw colored spikelets in summer. Tolerates summer heat. Semi-deciduous in colder climates. Naturally found in sandy soils, Blue Rye is good for erosion control or in beachside conditions. Use in planters or containers to control spread.
